The following guidelines have been based on the research and experience of the instructors at Panharmonic Music Studio. You have the right to expect quality teaching including responsibility, punctuality, cheerfulness, and patience. Setting these guidelines allows us to do our job as educators and to maintain regularity in our schedule.
We reserve the right to revise this policy at any time to better serve you and our families. Any revision of the policy will be communicated to you before the changes take effect.
I. Duration of Lessons
Weekly lessons are approximately 30 minutes. The last 5 minutes of your lesson will be a recap of what you learned, what to practice, and what your parent/guardian can do to assist you in your practice at home if needed. You are welcome to purchase hour lessons.
II. Price of Lessons
Our annual tuition is broken down into monthly payments of $120 per student per 30 minutes. The teachers spend a lot of time preparing for each lesson. The price of lessons is not just for that approximate 30-minute lesson, but also includes the teacher’s prep time. At this price, the student is guaranteed that we will be prepared and present to teach 40 weeks per calendar year (January - December). If the student is enrolled during the year, then the expected amount of lessons will be adjusted accordingly (e.g., enrollment in July would mean 20 lessons for the year).
Monthly tuition is due the 1st of each month. We use Teacher Zone for automated monthly payments. There is a $20 late fee.
There is a $30 enrollment fee per student. Families will pay $25 per student when enrolling 2 or more students.
Each January, there is a $20 studio fee per student to assist with the continued improvement of the studio’s technology and resources.
The student is responsible for purchasing any books and supplies that the teacher feels the student needs in order to develop properly. Students will purchase the materials through the teacher.
All tuition and fees are non-refundable.
III. The Instrument
Piano: The student needs a tuned acoustic or digital piano of reasonable quality to use in practicing daily. Keyboards with 88 weighted touch sensitive keys will also work. We use Kyle at Becker’s Piano Tuning (phone 757-589-9177) to tune our pianos and HIGHLY recommend him!
A. Missed Lessons
Because specific times are set aside for specific students, a student who does not attend a lesson will simply miss the benefit of that lesson. We will then use that time or other times to plan for the student’s progress, locate materials, etc. Please be assured that your tuition pays for far more than the time spent with your child. There are no refunds, discounts or makeups given unless we are unable to teach the promised number of lessons.
B. Teacher Cancellations
The teacher reserves the right to cancel lessons at any time (e.g., holidays, illness, etc.). There are no refunds, discounts or makeups given unless we are unable to teach the promised number of lessons.
Students who are ill should not come to lessons. We reserve the right to send a student home if they arrive sick. If students will miss their lesson, please call/text their teacher.
At each lesson, the teacher will clearly explain the student’s practicing assignment for that week. The teacher will either write the assignments on the music or in a notebook. The student is expected to complete the assignments by the next lesson.
The duration of the practice depends on the student’s age and progress. Start out with short, focused practices at the same time(s) every day. Consistency is key and a daily routine provides great progress. Set your child up for success by helping them make their music practice a daily habit.
Remember: Practice does NOT make perfect; Practice makes PERMANENT!
Parents should understand that young children (generally up to age 10) need to be told to practice every day and will require supervision during their practice times.
VI. Discontinued Lessons
Occasionally, a student will want to quit, but it is a decision that should be made thoughtfully and discussed by the parent/guardian, teacher, and student so that lessons can end on a positive note. For discontinued lessons before the year is over, the student/parent will be charged a Cancellation Fee of $120.00 to be paid before the student's last lesson.
